American tenor of Sicilian descent. Born in New York but raised in Southern California. While studying at California State University, he sang in the Los Angeles Opera chorus, later becoming a soloist with the company. In 1998, he trained at the San Francisco Opera and the Metropolitan Opera's young artists program. In 1999, he made his Metropolitan Opera stage debut in "Pagliacci".
He has performed successfully on many of the world's leading stages, including the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Berlin State Opera, Vienna State Opera, Bavarian State Opera, Paris National Opera, Teatro Real in Madrid, Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Francisco Opera, Washington National Opera, and at festivals in Salzburg, Aix-en-Provence, and Verbier.
His extensive repertoire includes such roles as Tamino ("The Magic Flute"), Rodolfo ("La Bohème"), Edgardo ("Lucia di Lammermoor"), Alfred Germont ("La Traviata"), Gabriele Adorno ("Simon Boccanegra"), Faust ("Faust", "Mefistofele", and "The Damnation of Faust"), Roméo ("Romeo and Juliet"), Werther (in the opera of the same name), des Grieux ("Manon"), Don José ("Carmen"), Admetus ("Alceste" by Gluck), and others. In 2011, he was the first performer of the role of Mario Ruoppolo in the world premiere of Daniel Catán's opera "Il Postino" at Los Angeles Opera.
